Humankind is in denial…
When rain turned to acid,
we didn’t stop polluting.
Neither when rivers turned to poisonous foam.
Plastic trash are everywhere,
though research told us long ago,
that nature can’t break down plastics.
So now sea creatures eat plastic,
and beaches are sand mixed micro-plastics.People hold funerals and put up plaques for dead glaciers,
still we increase our use of fossil fuels,
ever increasing global warming.
Weather patterns is turning chaotic, extreme,
yet we still debate human impact, while;
the polar caps melt, bush burns, drought last for years,
and big storm system drench more than ever before.When children go on strike to get grown-ups to listen,
many belittle them instead of change behavior.
Will we awake before;
The caps have melted.
Low lying or poorly drained land is submerged due to rising sea levels.
The deserts of the world grows ever bigger, drier, more unlivable.
Fresh water is scarce.
Crops grow badly due to changed growth zones,
few pollinators, and depleted, poisoned soil.
Massive unfightable fires rage across huge swathes of continents.Human starve, and thirst.
Flee unlivable lands.
Fights war over arable land and drinkable water.Build humongous walls to keep the rightly coloured, rich people in.

Deadly no man’s land.
Even bigger, industrialized countries of refugee camps,
where the wrongly colored poor,
live their life in concentration camp horror.
Where Death become a blessing.

I know I’ve written about this before, but I think it’s to important an issue, so it will keep coming up in my writing.

So sad that our world seems to be still in denial, in spite of all the clear instances of serious Global Warming. That awakening has been declared and has been ignored by too many…
Impressive breadth of all you’ve touched on here. I think it’s important to collect it all together like this as often as possible. It’s easy to deny one or two symptoms at a time, harder to deny the whole onslaught at once.
It is important to write these poems. I cannot understand why humanity stays in denial so long, is so resistant to taking the steps we should have taken years ago. Those at the top have their agenda of power and greed and capitalism feeds its voracious appetite. Governments forget they are here to serve and protect the people – instead hey do what will keep them in power. I suspect human behavbiour will be FORCED to change – by cataclysm, some of which are already happening. Thank you for adding your voice to the conversation, and spreading awareness.
AN awakening–and more–is definitely needed. You summarize the case with appropriate drama and compelling poetry. Do you think some are cynical enough to think awakening no longer has any purpose?
This is a good poem, despite how sad the subject matter is.
What you say is all true and the whole human race needs to heed this.
Fine survey of it all and all too true. I do not believe the human beast will awaken soon enough. We’ve never been good at planning ahead. Our extinction will be the world’s salvation.
This is such a poignant write!❤️ I too feel that mankind is ignoring the warning signs so clear and evident everywhere in nature … I just hope we come to our senses soon.
