From Nadir to Zenith – last poem of 2020

Mummified alive by cobwebs of lies and deceit
Numbed until she couldn’t see it
Spider poison talking in her ears
Corroded until her heart knew new only fear
Hiding within a surreptitious poised shell
Her soul walked the cold and lonely paths of hell
In concentric circles further and further away from herself
Until one day a peddler in a wolf pelt
Traded a scarlet apple for a rhyme
One bite, her being rang with creative passions chime
Hands writing forbidden poetry until frozen fingers paper crumble
Feets choreographing forms until they bled and stumble
There is nowhere for the petite rodent to hide her bright light
Her pointy shoes rap-tap-ratting in their flight
She sings with newly found voice
Creative suffering my life choice
For love I’ll walk through fire
Reify my heart’s hidden desires
Travel from dark nadir to bright zenith
Rise from the ashes like a newborn Phoenix

There really wasn’t time. Right now I should socialize and talk the night away. Instead I’m alone, polishing the last poem of the year. I felt it important to write one last piece. A piece of rebirth and renewal. So I searched for inspiration and found it in #skyloverwordlist.

The petit rat was something I just learned about watching Tiny Pretty Things.

December Moon – A prayer (2019 Re-post)

Photo by Joonas kääriäinen from Pexels

30th December 2020
Tonight’s the last full moon of 2020. The Wolf Moon. The Elder Moon. The Moon of long midwinter nights.

Re-posting a poem from last year. This one made it into my Book of Shadows! :-)

Long night moon, last light
before midwinter
Lend your shine
to the crown on the maiden
Guide her steps
as she seeks the shadow hidden self

Wolf moon, silver light
upon dark lands
Lend your clear sight
to the eyes of the mother
Guide her hands
as she steers her den and pups through winter

Elder moon, eternal light
keeper of mysteries
Lend your divine wisdom
to the heart of the crone
Guide her words
as she teaches the young and prepare to move on

Fantasy – A Acrostic Poem

Free your mind
Accept the unknown
Note every strange idea
Take in sounds and smells
Always go further
See wonder in the mundane
Your mind can travel everywhere

It’s the holiday season and not much time or room for writing. Mostly it’s playing or hanging with the kids. Building a train of chairs and traveling to outer space. Acting different plays with cuddly toys. Reading books. Watching movies and series. Playing board games.

When evening comes my mind is overwhelmed by their energy and fountains of ideas. :-)

Memories of Labor – 25 December

Photo by Tobias Bjørkli from Pexels

Night before Christmas
Memories of labor rise
Giving birth on stable straw
Beneath clear starry skies

Guarded by Mars and Orion
Attended by the Moon
Hidden by a veil of mist
Grass sparkling with frost strewn

The mother struggle, the baby scream
Dawn, bright sunlight on ice
Tears and joy intertwine
Pain and blood, children’s birth price

Milk flows, the starchild grows
Beneath flurries of snow
Warm in the embrace of Love
A new Mother’s heart aglow

Gift Rhymes – 24 December (2019 Re-post)

In Sweden we have this tradition of writing rhymes that hint at what your Christmas presents contains. We celebrate on Christmas Eve.
The day starts with what my children call Santa porridge (Swedish rice pudding). The adults try to prep for the feast while the kids wait for presents. Many sit down at three o’clock to watch a traditional Disney medley on telly. Then go on to have the biggest dinner of the year – Julbord.

When dinner is cleared away, it’s time for the gifts under the three, or maybe delivered by the neighbor dressed as Santa. Many families have a tradition of everyone sitting around opening one gift at a time, round and round, until all gifts are opened. The gift rhymes are for many part of this tradition.

This gift might rattle
Many sided polyhedrons for battle
Land to farm for food
Markets for the shrewd
Mountains to mine for ore
Magic forests to explore
Trough the rules will be unfurled
How to be the ruler of this world

This is for thee
Found under the tree
A set of three

One handy in size for notable everyday moments
One sultry black for noting those black torments
One ruby red for novellas in your sensual parlance

All year round I wish thee well
Blank lines for my hearts mademoiselle
Empty pages for your muse to indwell

No, I’m sorry to say
I don’t carry cash today

But, wait. Don’t go…
I have this bag of clothes for goodwill today
You can have first pick
What do you say?

Yes, I know this leads to stares
We remind all these commuters here today
The holidays are for sharing good fortunes
At least, that’s what we all say

Written for the last prompt of the year at dVerse ~ Meet the bar with gift rhymes, where Björn shared this Swedish tradition. As guessing are part of it I haven’t told you what my two first presents contain. Can you guess?

I will however tell you that the last rhyme is a scene from real life.

Longing by the Moon – 22 December

The crescent moon is sickle sharp
Like the distance keeping us apart
Then she grows, still we’re seeing her from distant shores
Separated from the one we adore

The warm, golden half-moon
Makes us long for passionate afternoons
Then she fills, lockdown alarm shrills
While we freeze as loneliness chills

The full moon, glistening on frost
Reminding of all that’s lost
Then she fades, taking light and hope away
Spring, a made up, unreachable someday

Solstice prayer – 21 December (2019 Re-post)

© RedCat

I burn this so it may die within me
Leaving fertile ashes
where new life-pattern can grow

I burn this to signify re-birth
To give the seeds sown space
and nourishment to grow

I burn this to signify my Will set
Writing my pain,
Finding peace
Dancing with soul
Showing passion
Self-loving in heart
Accepting philia

Written for the solstice ritual of 2019.

The unusual and artistic image below, made using a technique known as “solargraphy” in which a pinhole camera captures the movement of the Sun in the sky over many months, was taken from the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment (APEX) telescope on the plateau of Chajnantor.
