I’m gonna help mommy with laundry
We’re gonna wash everything clean
Then hang it all by clothespins
My shirt so white that it gleamsSuddenly I remember the red fox
I dropped him yesterday in the rain
I better put him in the washer
So my brother can’t see the stainsI bundle the fox with my bed-sheets
Feeling so clever and grown
Now, no one will know that I took it
Without asking for a loanFrom the washroom, suddenly there’s a yell

Every white sheet is now pale pink
Sighing, mommy looks at me sternly
– Whatever did you think?
Written for tonight’s Poetics prompt at dVerse. And inspired by a children’s book I read at bed time earlier tonight.

Wonderful realistic poem
Heehee! That sly red fox! I wondered when someone would get around to pink laundry. :) I love this!
Uh-oh, trouble in paradise.
I like your light-hearted poem to laundry. There is nothing wrong with pink sheets :)
A delightful story!!!
Your laundry poem made me smile, Helene. My grandson has a red fox and I can imagine him slipping it in with the white wash!
Caught red-handed! A lovely poem.
How innocent and light hearted!
Oops!
Ha… I remember when I helped washing and accidentally put my burgundy (home-dyed) t-shirt with all my mother’s underwear… they came out all pink.
LoL! Home-dyed might shed even more colour than commercial dyed fabric. I haven’t thought about all those home dyed 1980 clothes for ages. 😆
Hahahaha :D I so love the “pink laundry,” and the story of the red fox 💝 a fun and delightful poem!
Thank you! 💕 I tried to keep it light and fun. This is my first attempt at writing poetry for children and I’m delighted it seems to have worked for adults too. 😊
