I like repetitions and rhymes. I also like meditation and mantras. :-)
“Breath deep. Breath slow.” – was the first meditation poem I wrote. Which coincides with the first day I started to seriously meditate. Right now I’m thankful for the fact that I managed to make it into a habit before the pandemic started. Without that daily dose of peace and grounding. Without that self-care, I think my depression would have bloomed right now, fueled my the ongoing catastrophe.

Oasis – A meditation poem


Focus on your breath
In and out
Attend that which is within
All that’s swirling inside
Not the hectic outside
Then try letting it all go

After a while you’ll find
The calm that’s an oasis
Not a deceptive mirage

Inky and Ice Cold Tarn of Sorrow

Wave upon wave of darkness crashing in
Sinking, no chance to swim
Chilling doubt seeps in
Trauma wrought chains within

Shower and sparkle of bubbles with air
Lead heavy, stuck in despair
Losing the fight to draw air
Would anyone even care?

Inky and ice cold tarn of sorrow
No dawn of tomorrow
Frozen in ice sheets of sorrow
Cold in soul and marrow

Glimmer and gleam of bright hope
Igniting life’s colourful kaleidoscope
Even for the most wretched there’s shimmering hope
Hold my hand and together we’ll anything cope

And before anyone gets worried, this is thankfully not how bad my depression is right now. This is processing by writing about it. It is also an attempt to help someone else express themselves. And a chance to show some hope for everyone having a hard time right now.

For me a tarn can be both a small woodland lake or a water filled old mining shaft, with inky black waters.

The World Hit Stop


The world hit stop
Just as we reached a new frenzied top
Ego driven materialistic quagmire
Fight and work for stuff to acquire
Money and power lies tell
All they want is a chance to sell
To extract and suck dry
Who cares if we pollute both earth and sky

Stranded, isolated, alone
May we will find in our hearts a subtler tone
When the busy world around slows
What matters most quickly starts to show
When we take time to truly breath
We connect to what our hearts truly feel
We find souls passion to another life lead
Faced with eternal human choice
Fight to live free or deprive the world your unique voice

The last weeks I’ve been struggling with if it’s right to write in a time like this. After much thought and meditation on the subject. Instead I decided to trow myself into writing and sharing. Poetry, my meditation and compassion mind training journey, some prose, and small things that put a smile on my face or brightens the day.

Take a Step Back

Take a step back
Allow yourself to relax

If the world feels ready to crack
The life you’ve known gone
Reality suddenly re-drawn
That’s precisely when, you need to

Take a step back
Allow yourself to relax

Grant yourself time to feel
Time to be, time to grieve
Allow yourself moments of peace
Right now, when the world cries out in need

Take a step back
Allow yourself to relax

Give yourself space
A few moments of divine grace
Allow room for trust, love and hope
Gift yourself the strength to cope

Take a step back
Allow yourself to relax

Ground yourself with breath
A few heartbeats of grounded rest
Allow yourself to gather your defences
Wisdom to chart a path through severe consequences

Last week felt rough, my group therapy got cancelled, due to corona. If it restarts is anyone’s guess. I also felt drawn in every direction at once, trying to juggle working at home and home schooling the kids. I did write, but had no energy for prompts as I use to.

During the weekend I finally got some real time to meditate.

Take a step back

Allow yourself time to relax

Was the message I received.
So I decided to let myself think of other things then the growing pandemic and the severe economic consequences looming on the horizon.

The result is directly clear. If I allow myself a step back and a few moments of peace. I feel less overwhelmed. Less hopeless. Less isolated.
Able to focus on sparks of joy and beauty. Able to write.

To all known and yet unknown friends.
Take care of yourself.

Remember there are friends out there.
Remember to be compassionate towards yourself and others.
Remember that we all deserve moments of peace and stillness.

Intense Meditation, Week 3

In group this week we got introduced to finding and/or meeting our inner Compassionate Self, who are signified by acceptance and kindness, non-judgment, stability and strength, warmth and wisdom. Or in other words, to find that inner archetype, open communication with that higher inner Self.

We we’re given home work to read every day for a week. I managed two times. This exercise is as hard for me as the Safe Space meditations.

Today I went back to it, putting on my bedroom wall, where seeing will become reading. So I can approach it slowly over time, instead of not doing it, because it gives a PTSD inducing, trauma connected reaction.

I also stole myself a few minutes alone, so I could talk about an insight around the reason for getting panicky when meditating, or drop down tiered after yoga. (More about that in a coming post.) It goes against open honesty within the therapy group, but since several of the participants have shown the reaction I know so well, I thought it better not to upset the pot.

I’ve mentioned journaling combined with meditation before, and as of last week I have a Meditation Journal. So far it contains some Compassion Focused Therapy theory, notes from a meditation podcast, some meditation tools, meditation inspired poetry, and most importantly I note how my practice is going, how it affects me, thoughts and insights.

I’ve kept meditating 2-3 times a day, so most mornings, a walk during the day, and going to bed at night. The last one especially have helped me. I no longer toss and turn for hours, or need to resort to sleep medication, which leaves you muddled the next day.
