Monsters

Child don’t fear the ghost and goblins of your books.
Don’t fret about the monsters the superheroes vanquish.
Or the dark shadows underneath the bed.

Take fright at the smiling face that tells untruths,
that makes you doubt your instincts.
Dread the monsters that hide
behind a Prince Charming facade,
that lures you into the trap unawares.
Fear the cruel heart and black mind.

Child, remember.
The worst monsters look like ordinary people.
But don’t worry.
Mummy will teach you the signs to watch,
the instincts to guide your way,
and the Self-Love to keep you safe.
