Women appearing perfect everywhere
Painted, coiffed, pushed up and laced tight
Waiting for admirers to gawk and stare
Balancing on spikes as if ready for a fightPainted, coiffed, pushed up and laced tight
No trauma, scars or sorrow the mirror shows
Balancing on spikes as if ready for a fight
No brilliant minds or passionate hearts glowsNo trauma, scars or sorrow the mirror shows
Every advantage brought to the fore
No brilliant minds or passionate hearts glows
Polished dolls hiding so much moreEvery advantage brought to the fore

Interesting, thank you!
Nobody I know does the Pantoum as well as you. Fine work. Thanks.
Helene, this one is a keeper. Every line fits seamlessly together. Keeping women as perfect objects without thoughts or feelings is the objective of the patriarchy. Thank goodness the number of rebels grows by the moment.
A great poem Helene! The images in the picture and the poem are a perfect match.
This is wonderful, Helene, I remember it from the first time. So many people only see the polished surface, perhaps that’s because it’s all they’re interested in.
The pantoum works so well, Helene, and it goes perfectly with Kerfe’s work (and you know she loves pantoums, too).
Social media is good at showing only polished women.
Well written Helene! 👍🏼
